The training, conducted from 27 October to 20 November 2025, forms part of the Integrated Grant under the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP). Through this initiative, food and vegetable gardens have been established at 27 schools in and around the John Taole Gaetsewe District Municipality.

The EPWP participants, who serve as food gardeners at various schools, were selected for this upskilling opportunity due to the vital role they play in maintaining and caring for the school gardens. Their training focused on essential plant production techniques, ensuring that the gardens remain productive and sustainable throughout the year.

Participants expressed deep appreciation for the training and shared how the programme has transformed their understanding of plant production. One trainee commented that he had always believed planting was as simple as placing seeds in the soil, but through the training, he gained valuable knowledge and recognised the complexity and importance of proper agricultural practices.

The initiative continues to demonstrate the positive impact of the EPWP in creating skills, livelihoods, and meaningful community developments.
