Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is a very important element in the implementation of the programme. M&E provides the information for EPWP coordinators to review Programme progress, identify problems, make adjustments and highlight problem areas to be addressed. Used correctly, M&E can assist delivery and increase the impact of the programme. M&E frameworks must be supported by information systems that enable data collection and analysis to be effective.

A M&E framework exists which defines reporting and evaluation protocols for the Programme. On a quarterly basis, EPWP performance is monitored and the performance of the Programme is publically announced through various fora. The Programme and its sub-programmes are also constantly evaluated through case studies, cross-sectional surveys and longitudinal studies.
